There are many types fencing to meet various fencing needs on the farm. Because fencing is such a big investment
on your farm, it is very important to choose a fence that is durable, easy to maintain, and affordable.
Board Fences
Board fences are attractive, sturdy, and are safe for animals. They are usually used as border fences around the
farm or home. They are typically built to heights of 4 or 5 feet with boards 1 to 2 inch thick, 4 to 6 inches wide, with
posts spaced 8 to 10 feet apart. It can also be painted or stained.
Woven Wire Fences
Woven wire fences are a more affordable choice and there are many combinations of wire sizes to fit the needs of
your farm. The height of most woven fence materials ranges from 26 to 48 inches. Steel posts are advantageous
because they are fireproof, they won’t rot and they also help ground the fence against lightning strikes. We typically
install wooden line posts every 50 to 75 feet, and steel posts 14 – 16 feet.
